With
only a half hour trip from the Caselle airport, and near the Milano
and Genova highway junctions, the 3 star Hotel Interporto of Turin
has a centralized location from Piedmont businesses and tourist
attractions which heavily concentrate the Turin area.
After
Italy’s unification, Turin was the first capital. Nowadays,
it is a city rich in culture and monuments. A place where history
and modernism merge in wake of the country’s various developmental
phases: whether the technical-industrial, tied to the automotive
world, or those of the recent evolution of the advanced service
industries and cultural heritage conservation. Within its streets
are prestigious universities and numerous contemporary and modern
art galleries. In 2008, Turin will become the European capital of
design with the construction of a forefront business center such
as Lingotto, which is capable of hosting world class fairs and conventions,
giving Turin a leading role.
Near
the most modern regions you will find still intact evidence of a
prestigious past like Piazza Castello, the true city center, emerging
from Palazzo Madama and Palazzo Reale's splendor. The Savoy dynasty’s
home, which fuses varying architectural styles ranging from the
rococò, baroque, to neo-classical, is today the Savoy dynasty
Museum. The busy Piazza San Carlo is most certainly Turin’s
prettiest square, with it's baroque church facades, an the equestrian
monument dedicated to Emanuele Filiberto, and it's famous 19th century
caffès; San Carlo and Turin, along with renowned pastries.
The Shroud of Turin is conserved in the San Giovanni Battista cathedral,
which is the shroud that is said to have covered Jesus after His
death, leaving the image of His face printed in the fabric.
From
above its 167 meters, the Mole Antonelliana dominates the scenery.
It is the city’s symbol and it houses the National Museum
of Cinema. One must not miss the opportunity to visit the Egyptian
museum; second only to the Cairo Museum. It houses 30,000 exhibits,
intact tombs, papyrus and temples. An extraordinary collection that
is unmatched anywhere in the world. Equally as important is the
Automobile museum located in Corso Unità D’Italia.
It’s exhibition length spans a kilometer and a half, making
it an essential must-see venue at the European level. Inside, it’s
possible to view the evolution of legendary makes such as Ferrari,
Alfa Romeo and Rolls Royce.
Among
the hotels in Turin, Hotel Interporto has an ideal location from
which to explore the city. Villa della Regina and the Palazzina
Caccia di Stupinigi are some of the many splendid Savoy Villas that
are found in the surrounding hills. Within the first one, the colorful
Italian style gardens with melodious fountains blend between baroque
architecture while the rococò style of the second preludes
the precious features which decorate its interior. The Sacra of
San Michele located in Pirchiriano hill in Val di Susa, is an antique
roman monastery immersed in an ancient atmosphere, and a true Piedmont
symbol. The building deserves a visit in which you will admire the
steep Scalone dei Morti that lead to the Porta dello Zodiaco, a
12th century sculptural masterpiece, and the beautiful 5 meter statue
recently dedicated to Archangel Michael.
